A fly fisherman is likely to prefer something elegant, like a single fly, a rod against the light or a stretch of chalk stream. A sea angler might love a photo of his boat or a favourite mark along the coast. And a match angler could have his best result, with weight and venue, on his cufflinks. The more specific you are, the more he'll feel you've understood him.
Getting a Catch Photo Ready
The photo makes or breaks a pair of fishing cufflinks, and most fishing photos are taken in a hurry, often in poor light on a phone held by a mate. When choosing, look for the sharpest image, where the fish's scales are crisp and his face isn't in shadow under a cap. Wide shots with lots of bank and sky will leave a tiny fish in the middle, so use the zoom in the preview to crop in close. Bright scales and green water print beautifully, but very dark dawn shots may look muddy. If you have several angles of the same catch, place the best two side by side as one image. Always use the original from the phone rather than a version shared through a messaging app.
